Leeds is of the fastest developing cities in the UK and with over a decade of redevelopment under its belt, Leeds has transformed from a deserted mill town to a concrete jungle consisting of skyscraper offices, glass waterfront apartments and refurbished Victorian shopping arcades.

A few miles away from the bustling city centre and thriving business sector is greenery as far as the eye can see. Leeds is one of the greenest places in England with the surrounding countryside and Yorkshire Dales covering half the city as designated green belt land. You really do get the best of both worlds if you choose to learn English in Leeds.

Travelling in and out of Leeds

Due to its location in the heart of England, Leeds is often referred to as one of the most accessible cities in the UK. Leeds has great transport links to the rest of the UK and has one of the largest train stations outside of London. Leeds City Station is busier than most with around 50,000 passengers and commuters passing through every day. There are frequent trains to and from the capital and direct routes are also available to major cities such as Birmingham and Manchester.

Leeds has a deep-rooted past with rail transport and is home to the oldest running railway in the entire world. The Middleton Colliery Railway was built way back in 1755, starting life as wooden tracks which were used for coal wagons and driven by horses. As the oldest continually operated railway, its existence is still a big part of Leeds today and continues to operate by the help of volunteers and members of the public so you can still experience a ride on a restored steam locomotive.

Aside from great rail links, you can travel further afield as Leeds Bradford Airport just 8 miles away from the centre. There are frequent flights every day to a huge range of exotic locations around the world so seeing the world couldn’t be easier!
